I hired an online friend who is also a freelance editor to take a look at Book One of The Geek Girls Trilogy, Of Love and Cosplay. They loved it! Two rounds of edits have been gone through and it’s as spit-polished as I can make it. Time for Robin and Greg’s story to go out into the world. First visit? The Big Apple Contest through Romance Writers of America NYC, Inc. They wanted the first chapter and the entry fee, which I happily forked over. Time to see what all my hard work can do.
My critique partners are almost done with Book Two, A Renaissance Affaire, but I know the ending needs a lot of work and I’m hoping they can help me out with it. I did A Renaissance Affaire during NanoWriMo about three years ago and burnt myself out on writing so badly I’m still struggling, especially with Book Three, Confessions of a Beatlemaniac. Even fan fiction is hard to write these days. Read? No problem? Write? Ugh. I just don’t have a feel for Autumn and Doyle’s story like I did the first two books. I need help, I just don’t know what kind of help.
I’ve got some percolating non-fiction article ideas in my head that I need to run by someone within the field of academia. My contacts, though, are so old that I’m not sure they’ll be useful. I also have two short story mysteries set during the youth of Alexander the Great that I want to peddle as well, plus a third on the back burner…see my writing issues as to why it’s on the back burner and not written. If anyone knows of any magazines or anthologies looking for short stories set in ancient times, drop me a line. A couple of mystery writer friends said the first one was very good. I haven’t pestered anyone about the second one yet. I think the anthology that I submitted the first story to back last August fell through as I’ve heard nothing from them and I can’t find any information on the interwebs regarding the status of the anthology.
Well, that’s all the news for now. Stay tuned and wish me luck in the contest! Cheers!
