Sorry for the long wait for an update, but a lot has been happening! An online friend of mine is a freelance editor and agreed to take a look at Book One of The Geek Girls Trilogy, Of Love and Cosplay. I got the edits back last Friday and have been editing from their suggestions, and will be doing rewrites and additions this holiday weekend. Then myself and my editor will have a phone call to discuss things and I’ll send back the manuscript for a second round of edits to make sure my changes make sense and I didn’t screw anything up, continuity-wise. My goal is to start sending out query letters by the end of August. So I’ll be sending my critique group samples of query letter ad nauseam to make sure I don’t sound like a total loser. LOL!
Work seems to have simmered down and doesn’t seem so dire. I mean, there is always the possibility of my job going away, but it doesn’t appear to be anytime soon. So, likely I will still be employed at the end of the year, despite rumors to the contrary in February and March.
My critique group is hard at work going through Book Two, A Renaissance Affaire, and I’m hopeful that once they get to the end they can help me with it, because, frankly, it sucks. I wrote A Renaissance Affaire during Nanowrimo about two years ago and burnt myself on the series, the stories, and writing very badly. I’m struggling with Book Three, Confessions of a Beatlemaniac, still. But I’m hopeful my mojo will come back and I’ll get back to scribbling out scenes whenever the muse strikes.
I plan on attending Romance GenreCon at the Mid-Continent Library on the Missouri side of town again this year but once again I won’t have anything to sell. Yet. I did submit the second Matchmaking Miuty short story to the Woodneath Press, the publication side of the Mid-Continent Library. They are looking to publish a romance anthology in 2026. I haven’t heard anything back yet, nor have I heard anything about my ancient Macedonian short story mystery I submitted last year. I think that’s a dud, unfortunately. The deadline was Oct 31, 2024 and I haven’t heard a peep from them. So either the project fell through or I didn’t make the cut and they didn’t even bother to send a rejection letter, which seems kind of rude but hey, what do I know?
Anyway, that’s it for me, for now. More later. Be safe, everyone, and have a good Memorial Day weekend!
